A version of Windows 11 geared toward students and educational institutions has been developed by Microsoft. To compete with Google’s Chromebooks, which are widely used in US schools, Microsoft is releasing Windows 11 SE, which will only be available on low-cost laptops aimed at K-8 students.
Microsoft has been stumped as to why Chromebooks have become so popular with schools and students. This is the second time Microsoft has tried to implement a S Mode that restricts Windows 10 to apps from the Microsoft Store. Users and schools were more annoyed by the restriction because the Microsoft Store didn’t have enough apps for it to make sense at the time.
Unlike Microsoft’s original plans for Windows 10X, Windows 11 SE takes a different approach to a school edition of the operating system. It will only be available on new low-cost devices and to customers in the education and government sectors. If you want to run non-Microsoft apps on Windows 11 SE, you can. It’s optimized for Microsoft apps like Edge, Office, and cloud-based services.
Windows 11 SE also supports third-party apps such as Zoom and Chrome because Microsoft’s education marketing director Paige Johnson wants to give schools the choice of what works best for them. It will be up to the IT department to decide which apps get installed and when, and devices can be set to automatically update when not in use.
The Microsoft Store will not be included with Windows 11 SE when it is released. Microsoft, on the other hand, is allowing IT administrators to install certain third-party apps on SE devices. Google’s Chrome and Zoom are on that list, but Microsoft hasn’t revealed the full list of apps that have been approved yet.
Also in SE, Microsoft has removed the new Widgets section of Windows 11 because they found it distracting in a classroom environment. Chrome extensions will be enabled in Microsoft Edge, which is currently disabled by default in Windows 11. This change is a clear acknowledgment of the fact that many schools in the United States rely on Chrome extensions as part of their Chrome OS use. To make it easier for students to use these Windows 11 SE laptops outside of the classroom, Windows 11 SE backs up documents to OneDrive by default, with offline support.
Bloom wallpaper will be pre-installed by default in Windows 11 SE, along with new app bundles. In Windows 11, you may notice that you have two versions of OneNote or Teams installed, but Microsoft has fixed this in Windows 11 SE so that you only have one installed.
This version of Windows will only be available on low-cost school laptops. Laptops with Windows 11 SE will be released by Acer; Asus; Dell; Dynabook; Fujitsu; HP; JK-IP; Lenovo; and Positivo. A ₹15,499 Surface Laptop SE from Microsoft sets the stage for the Windows 11 SE operating system. There is an Intel Celeron processor, 4GB of DDR3L RAM, and an 11.6-inch (1366 x 768) HD display in the base model.
When it comes to low-cost Windows 11 SE devices, the Surface Laptop SE is a good example of what you can expect. Windows 11 SE should run smoothly on these low-cost laptops, as Microsoft claims it has made significant performance improvements optimized for devices with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
Microsoft’s efforts to compete with Chrome OS are also a big part of Windows 11 SE, which Microsoft says isn’t meant to be short for anything. What makes Chrome OS so easy to manage for IT administrators and schools has often been overlooked by Microsoft. Windows 11 SE laptops can now communicate with Microsoft Intune right away for setup purposes.
A simplified back-end management console for education makes it easier for IT administrators to provision these devices. For IT administrators, Microsoft is also including apps such as Flipgrid and Teams in Windows 11 SE so they don’t have to install them separately. Students will be able to open a Windows 11 SE laptop, type in their login information, and immediately access their apps and cloud documents.
This year and into 2022, Microsoft expects Windows 11 SE laptops in education channels to arrive just as the school year begins.
What Are The Features And Specifications Of Microsoft Surface SE?
Microsoft has launched a new ₹15,499 Surface Laptop SE, its most affordable Surface yet. The Surface Laptop SE is Microsoft’s first true Chromebook competitor, despite the company’s attempts to compete with Chrome OS for years.
Starting at ₹15,499, the Surface Laptop SE will only be available to schools and students. New low-cost laptops will ship with Windows 11 SE in the coming months, a new student edition designed to compete with Chrome OS. You can find all the information you need about Windows 11 SE here.
The Surface Laptop SE is exactly what you’d expect from a ₹15,499 Windows laptop. Surface Laptop Go’s all-plastic body houses an 11.6-inch display running at just 1366 x 768 resolution, even though the keyboard and trackpad are identical. Microsoft hasn’t released a 16:9 Surface device in more than seven years, since the launch of the Surface Pro 3 in 2014.
We were not a fan of the low-resolution screen (1536 x 1024) found on the ₹39,999 Surface Laptop Go, so this device’s screen appears to be the biggest drawback. Lenovo’s Chromebook Duet, which costs the same ₹15,499 as the Surface Laptop SE, has a better 10.1-inch (1920 x 1200) display.
The Surface Laptop SE is powered by Intel’s Celeron N4020 or N4120 processors, which are paired with either 4GB or 8GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of eMMC storage, respectively. A 720P front-facing camera with a 1-megapixel resolution is included in Microsoft’s Teams app. Surface Laptop SE has a headphone jack and USB-A ports, a regular barrel-type DC connector, and a USB-C port. Microsoft’s magnetic charging port has never been used on a Surface laptop before.
This is not the only first for the Surface Laptop SE, though. With the Surface Laptop SE, Microsoft is putting a lot of effort into making it easy for schools to replace the laptop’s internal components. It is possible to replace the display, battery, keyboard, and even the motherboard of the Surface Laptop SE using the standard screws found on the laptop’s base.
As a result of Microsoft’s 18-month conversation with school IT administrators, repairability was one of the top concerns. As a result, schools won’t have to send devices out for repair and wait days or weeks for them to be repaired because Microsoft will sell spare parts through authorized service providers.
This repairability is expected to be present in future Surface laptops, as Microsoft has promised to make all of its devices easier to fix by the end of 2018.
Microsoft’s Surface Laptop SE will go on sale in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Japan in early 2022. The 4GB RAM and 64GB storage version will cost ₹15,499, while the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model will cost ₹23,999. Acer, Asus, Dell, Dynabook, Fujitsu, HP, JK-IP, Lenovo, and Positivo are all expected to release Windows 11 SE laptops.
